Latest improvements to the Vuosaari road tunnel detour route will be implemented on Sunday, October 5, and the route will be tested from Monday, October 6, at 10 p.m. until Thursday, October 9, at 10 p.m.
Changes made:
- Itäväylä (eastbound): straight ahead only from the left lane; right lane for Kallvikintie only.
- Itäväylä/Kallvikintie junction: traffic lights adjusted for smoother flow.
- Kallvikintie–Niinisaarentie roundabout: south-side bus stop removed; bypass lane opened to all traffic.
- Speed limit: 40 km/h between the Kallvikintie roundabout and the Satamakaari junction.
These changes aim to keep traffic smooth and safe during the upcoming tunnel renovation.
Repair work on the Vuosaari tunnel will begin on January 6, 2026, at which point the tunnel will be closed to traffic. The estimated closure period is approximately one year. During this time, traffic will be diverted to a detour route that runs from Ring Road III via Itäväylä, Kallvikintie, and Niinisaarentie to Vuosaari Harbour. Several improvements have been made to the route to ensure that traffic flows as smoothly as possible while the tunnel is closed.
